The 7th Grade World History class is an integrated Language course that uses reading, mapping, writing, visuals and quite a bit of varied research skills  to make select units of the history of "western" cultures come alive.  We stress the "history of the everyday lives" of those who lived during Ancient and  Medieval times.  We also look for the connections and patterns that those societies have passed on to us  so that we can draw from them today in our everyday lives. History is not boring facts and dates. It is alive and a part of us and we learn to interact with the past in this course. Modern US society has deep roots in the "old world" and we better understand ourselves when we are able to bond with our past.

Units included are:

Stone Age       Mesopotamia        Ancient Egypt

Ancient Mayas, Aztecs and Incas

Ancient Aegean and Greece     Roman Republic and Empire

Constantinople and the Byzantine Empire

Early Medieval Society

Later Medieval Society and European Nation Building

The Senior High World Studies class is also an integrated Language course will examine and analyze the major influences on our society since the time of the European Renaissance in the 1400's.  The foundations of democracy, self determination, human rights and freedom, individual dignity with a common purpose; all known as "Western values", will be studied as they were sometimes masterfully used and tragically abused. Individual and partnership research activities, visuals, writing and mapping are some of the usual class activities. The impact of the related events on common people as well as the major players in the units of study will be stressed.   Units included are:

European (Italian and English) Renaissance

Protestant Reformation

Islam on the Rise

Economy Based Exploration

Absolute Rule vs. The Age of Reason

The French Revolution and the Napoleonic Era

Industrial Rise

Russian Roots and Russian Revolution

World War I
