Students in Ms. Buell’s class had a unique opportunity to hear from guest speaker Jim Sherkel, a former videographer for WTAJ, who shared his personal reflections and experiences surrounding the events of September 11, 2001.
Mr. Sherkel shared what it was like to experience that historic day through the lens of the news media, including sounds and recordings from 9/11 that helped students better understand the events as they unfolded. Students listened, asked thoughtful questions, and completed personal reflections about what they learned.
Mr. Sherkel also brought his personal collection of newspapers and magazine headlines from 9/11 for students to explore, giving them a firsthand look at how the events were reported and documented at the time.
Superintendent Mrs. O’Hare also had the opportunity to join the students for this meaningful presentation.

Mrs. Pierce’s class was excited to be back at Shop N Save this year! Students had the opportunity to practice important real-world skills by helping bag groceries, working on their social skills, and fronting and organizing items throughout the store.

Our 4th Annual Grandparents Day Bingo for Books was held last Friday, and what an incredible day it was! We welcomed 479 grandparents, great-grandparents, and grandchildren for an afternoon filled with bingo, books, smiles, and special memories. 🥰
Students who did not have a grandparent able to attend joined in the fun by playing bingo in their classrooms at the same time. Thanks to the generosity of our PTO, every child in our school received a book as a prize! 📖❤️
A special thank you to The Nutrition Group, our custodial team, PTO volunteers, NHS student volunteers, and our entire staff for working together to make this wonderful family engagement event possible.

Tafco, Inc., located in the Industrial Park complex in Clearfield, is sponsoring our school through The Challenge Program and will provide $200 cash awards to students in grades 10, 11, and 12 in five categories:

The 2027 Moshannon Valley High School Yearbook is now on sale! Order early to get the best price — yearbooks are $50 through October 31, with prices increasing throughout the school year. This year’s yearbook will be a complete book, so there will no longer be spring inserts.
🍕 Want to help pay for your yearbook? Students can participate in the Little Caesars fundraiser! Create your own fundraising account, share your link with family and friends, and earn $7 profit per item sold toward the purchase of your yearbook. The fundraiser runs September 14–October 14.

Mrs. Shunkwiler’s 6th graders kicked off the year with a fun collaborative writing challenge! 🌟
Students traveled to different stations featuring three unique story starters, adding their own ideas and continuing the stories their classmates had begun. It was part improv, part creative writing, and A LOT of fun! 😄
The activity helped students get back into the swing of writing, practice working together as a team, and—most importantly—let their creativity shine! ✨
From unexpected twists to wild ideas, it was so much fun to see where their imaginations took each story! 📝💭
