Mrs. Kane-Degma’s Sixth Grade artists created stunning Aurora Borealis scrape-art landscape silhouettes 🌌✨🎨. To begin, students learned about the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights)—vibrant ribbons of color that appear when energetic particles from the Sun interact with Earth’s magnetic field and upper atmosphere ☀️🌍💫.

Students used a sponge-painting technique to create a deep, midnight-blue night sky for their backgrounds 🧽🔵🌙. Following Mrs. Degma’s step-by-step demonstration, artists selected a variety of tempera paint colors and used a large popsicle stick to scrape the paint across the page, mimicking the glowing movement of the Northern Lights—known as the scrape-art painting technique 🎨🍡〰️.

To complete their pieces, the class discussed what a mountainous landscape silhouette looks like ⛰️🖤. Students sketched their silhouettes from observation, cut them out ✂️, and glued them into the foreground to finish their breathtaking night-sky landscapes 🌌👏🎉.

Mrs. Kane-Degma’s Fifth Grade artists created festive woodland animals wearing ugly Christmas sweaters 🦌🦊🐻🎄🧶! Students began by closely observing their chosen woodland animal and drawing it from reference 👀✏️. Using Sharpies, they added textured fur lines to enhance detail and realism 🖤〰️.

Next, artists designed an ugly Christmas sweater filled with repetitive holiday patterns made from shapes, lines, and color 🎁🔺〰️🎨. This lesson highlighted important elements of art and principles of design, including texture, repetition, line, shape, and color 🧠✨.

A creative and cozy project that perfectly blends observation, design, and holiday fun! ❄️👏🎉

Mrs. Kane-Degma’s Fourth Grade artists created stunning Winter Evergreen Tree Silhouette paintings 🌲❄️🎨. Using related colors, students blended soft, harmonious backgrounds while learning about color theory and how similar hues work together 🔵💜💙.

Once their silhouettes were complete, artists added white tempera paint along the edges of the branches to mimic freshly fallen snow 🤍🖌️. To finish, students used a splatter-paint technique to create a magical, snowy effect—bringing each winter scene to life ✨❄️☃️.

A beautiful showcase of blending, balance, and winter creativity! 👏🎉

Mrs. Kane-Degma’s Third Grade artists created beautiful Winter Tree Landscapes ❄️🌲🎨. Students learned about the four parts of a landscape and thoughtfully included each one in their paintings 🏔️🌲🌌.

To add texture, artists used a sponge painting technique for the background and trees 🧽🖌️. They added details to their pine and crabapple “lollipop” trees using repetitive lines 〰️🌳. Next, students cut ✂️ and pasted paper pieces 📄 and used paper straws 🥤 to give their landscapes a fun 3-D effect 🤩.

The final touch was snow! Students dabbed Q-tips into white tempera paint to create falling snowflakes ❄️🤍☃️. A wintery masterpiece full of texture, creativity, and artistic skill! 👏✨

Mrs. Kane-Degma’s Second Grade artists created a winter value snowman landscape in art class ☃️❄️🎨. Students were introduced to the element of art value, exploring how tints and shades can change the mood of a painting 🔵💙🤍.

Using tempera paint, students mixed different tints and shades of blue to design their winter skies 🖌️🌌. They also learned about the parts of a landscape and thoughtfully included each element in their artwork 🏔️🌲❄️. To finish their pieces, students used oil pastels to add colorful details and personality to their snowmen ✏️☃️✨.

A cool project showcasing creativity, color mixing, and artistic thinking! 👏🎉

Mrs. Kane-Degma’s First Grade artists made deliberate choices between warm 🔴🟠🟡 or cool 🔵🟣🟢 color schemes, showing their growing understanding of basic color theory 🎨🧠. This project became a mixed media penguin collage 🐧✨ using a variety of materials and techniques!

Students painted their backgrounds with tempera cakes 🖌️, used construction paper to build the penguin’s body 📄, and added chalk pastel to create a frosty ice effect ❄️🤍. They explored implied texture by smudging and rubbing the chalk pastel for a soft, blended look 🫧👆 and actual texture by adding different textured materials to decorate their penguins 🧶🔘.

By cutting ✂️ and layering papers and materials, students created a true collage—a chilly-cool project full of creativity, texture, and thoughtful design choices! 🐧❄️🎉
