On Monday evening at our School Board meeting, we proudly recognized George Nestlerode with a plaque that will be displayed in the showcase near the High School Gym.
George has been a dedicated member of the Cross Country program since his freshman year, when he earned an impressive personal record (P.R.) of 19:16. Since then, he has demonstrated tremendous growth as both an athlete and a leader. He consistently pushed himself to improve—often logging nearly 300 miles each summer to prepare for the fall season—and even expanded his training by competing independently in Track & Field in the 1600m and 3200m events last spring.
A true staple in the local running community, George is well-known for his love of 5Ks and can often be seen running along—and sometimes across—the roads throughout our district. Over the years, he has built strong connections with opponents and coaches across the region, always offering encouragement, sportsmanship, and an authentic passion for the sport. His remarkable memory for teams, courses, and competitors makes him the kind of runner who cheers for everyone.
The past two seasons have brought exceptional success. George earned back-to-back ICC Championships ('24 and '25), finished as District VI runner-up in both years, and qualified for the PIAA State Championship in Hershey, placing 80th in 2024 and an outstanding 39th in 2025. He closes his high school cross country career with a phenomenal P.R. of 16:53, set at ICCs in Meyersdale.
George plans to continue running Track & Field this spring and intends to pursue Cross Country and Track & Field at the collegiate level next year. We are incredibly proud of his dedication, sportsmanship, and the example he sets for younger athletes.
Congratulations, George!

Our 6th grade students had an incredible time at Penn State Women’s Basketball Field Trip Day at Rec Hall last Thursday! 🏀🦁
The theme of the day — “If they see it, they can be it!” — encouraged students to dream big and showed how sports and education go hand-in-hand. ✨📚
Students cheered loud and proud as the Lady Lions took home the win against Coppin State, and many even scored free T-shirts during the game! 👕🎉
Such an inspiring and unforgettable day for our future leaders! 💙🤍

Students in Ms. Henninger’s ELA class just wrapped up their reading of Hoot by Carl Hiaasen, and they’re putting their creativity to the test! 🎬📚
To show their understanding of a central theme and how it develops throughout the novel, students are designing their very own movie posters inspired by the story. From bold visuals to thoughtful interpretations, their work is truly owl-standing! 🦉✨
Can’t wait to see the finished posters! 🎨👏
